CIVIT-DXOMARK Joint Lab Officially Launched at Tampere University
The Centre for Immersive Visual Technologies (CIVIT), in collaboration with DXOMARK, proudly hosted the launch of the CIVIT-DXOMARK Joint Lab on April 29, 2025 at Hervanta Campus of Tampere University. This new state-of-the-art facility is designed to advance the testing and development of modern imaging technologies through cutting-edge infrastructure and expertise.
Held at Tietotalo, the event brought together industry experts, researchers, and entrepreneurs for an afternoon of insights, demonstrations, and networking.
Exploring the Future of Imaging
The event began with a comprehensive tutorial by Hoang-Phi Nguyen, DXOMARK image specialist and product owner of the DXOMARK Analyzer imaging solution. His presentation, “Image Quality Evaluation: From Fundamentals to Emerging Challenges”, introduced participants to key topics such as:
- Image Quality (IQ) fundamentals
- HDR imaging
- Realistic lighting conditions
- Depth and latency testing
- The impact of AI on image quality
Following a coffee break, the opening words were delivered by Prof. Jarmo Takala, Vice President, Tampere University and Dr. Xunyou GE, Chief Business Officer, DXOMARK, setting the tone for the technical presentations that followed.
Attendees also received an overview of the lab’s technical capabilities and service offerings, delivered by Hoang-Phi Nguyen and Jussi Rantala, Staff Scientist at CIVIT.
Hands-On Sessions & Networking
The day concluded with parallel sessions offering participants multiple ways to engage:
- Networking – fostering new collaborations
- Technical Presentations – showcasing the Analyzer software
- Lab Tour – providing firsthand experience of the image quality assessment infrastructure
To close the day, attendees gathered for a relaxed evening at Suolijärvi sauna, enjoying snacks and informal discussion with colleagues and collaborators.
