CIVIT receives Open Science Promoter of the Year Award

Tampere University has awarded CIVIT the Open Science Promoter of the Year 2024 prize in recognition of its work in promoting responsible openness in research data. The award highlights CIVIT’s role in enabling reusable and well-managed open datasets in the field of immersive visual technologies.

Building openness into the research infrastructure

CIVIT supports researchers by providing tools, expertise, and infrastructure for creating high-quality visual datasets, and by ensuring they are published in a way that meets FAIR principles – Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. Datasets and software tools are openly available through CIVIT’s website, the national Fairdata service, and GitHub.

A platform for reproducible science and collaboration

By enabling reproducible research and supporting open collaboration across academia and industry, CIVIT’s infrastructure contributes to accelerating scientific progress in areas like volumetric capture, 3D video, immersive displays, and machine vision. The awarded practices strengthen CIVIT’s mission to serve as a trusted platform for researchers, students, and companies developing the next generation of imaging technologies.

The prize was presented during Tampere University’s annual celebration in April 2025 and reflects the university’s broader commitment to advancing open and impactful science.
