IEEE MMSP 2021, 06–08 October

The IEEE 23rd International Workshop on Multimedia Signal Processing (IEEE MMSP 2021) is organized as a hybrid event on October 06–08, 2021 in Tampere, Finland. The main theme of this year’s MMSP is “Empowering remote presence for industry and society”. CIVIT is one of the organizers of the event. 

The workshop’s interesting program consists of two keynotes, 44 oral and 61 poster presentations, 4 demo papers, 3 special sessions, and a grand challenge. Keynote by Oliver Schreer discusses the Current State and Advances of Volumetric Video, whereas Tuomas Virtanen will address the topic of Acoustic scene analysis – machine learning tasks, models, data, and applications. As a part of the program, the Finnish national network on remote presence and human virtualization research is presented (MAGICS kick-off event) by hosting a multidisciplinary panel and catching demos streamed from different locations: 

  • Volumetric Capture platform demo, Mantis Vision (live stream from Israel)
  • Remote operation of a vehicle, MIRO project (at Scandic Rosendahl)
  • Remote operation of medical robots, Elisa (at Scandic Rosendahl)
  • Multi-location demo with students from Näty (TAU) and Kuva (Uniarts) 
    Multi-location musical performance, Sebastian Schlecht, violin (Espoo) and Henna Tahvanainen, kantele (Tampere)
  • Embrace jury awards the winning team who present their XR project (Espoo)
