CIVIT Marks 10 Years with Anniversary Workshop at Tampere University
On November 27, 2025, the Centre for Immersive Visual Technologies (CIVIT) marked its 10-year milestone with a full-day workshop at Tampere University’s Hervanta Campus. The event brought together researchers, industry experts, and technology enthusiasts to explore the future of immersive visual technologies through presentations, live demonstrations, and networking opportunities.
Looking Back and Ahead
The workshop opened with welcoming words from Prof. Jarmo Takala, Vice President for Stakeholder Relations and Partnership at Tampere University, who emphasized the importance of modern infrastructures for university research, teaching and interaction with industry. Prof. Atanas Gotchev, overviewed the CIVIT’s journey and shared insights into its future directions. The morning session featured presentations on automotive imaging and AI-enabled driver assistance systems, with talks by Martin Punke (Aumovio), Frederik Zilly (Bosch), and Peter Kovacs (aiMotive).
Diving into Current Research
After lunch, the focus shifted to extended reality and next-generation display systems. Federika Battisti (University of Padua), Tatjana Pladere (University of Latvia), and Mårten Sjöström (Mid Sweden University) discussed topics ranging from Quality of Experience in XR to optometry and immersive remote operation for industrial applications.
Hands-On Demos and Networking
The day concluded with interactive demonstrations at Sähkötalo, where attendees experienced CIVIT’s advanced facilities, including the volumetric capture studio, omnidirectional treadmill, and display technologies. Attendees also explored CIVIT’s image quality assessment and spectral response measurement systems while enjoying food and drinks in a relaxed networking atmosphere.
Continuing the Journey
For ten years, CIVIT has played an important role in advancing immersive visual technologies for research and industry. The 10th anniversary workshop was not only a celebration but also an opportunity to share knowledge, showcase practical solutions, and strengthen in collaboration between academia and industry.
